Specialized Port Vehicle - Catering Terminal Ecosystem
BRIEF
Design a replacement vehicle for the West Basin Container Terminal (Port of Los Angeles) that adds value to its users while improving functionality, efficiency, and safety to the overall ecosystem
Project Duration: 4 months
My Role: Research, concept development, package design (Team of 4)
PROBLEM SPACE
Community
West Basin Container Terminal is a community and should be treated as a human centered interconnected unit.
Safety
These vehicles are the eyes and ears to the system; therefore, safety is of higher priority
Comfort
When pick-up users encounter discomfort and difficulties during work, their frustration heightens and leads to potentially irrational decisions, such as abuse of equipment and lessened productivity, resulting in compromised trust between management and dock workers.
SOLUTION
WBCT Trust System
A system designed to promote ownership and increase expectation to instill a more integrated port community.
Safe exterior
An exterior defined by heightened vehicular visibility and impact resistance to allow for secure and confident mobility around the port.
Comfort interior
An Environment of enhanced ergonomic support and effortless access that allows work to be pleasurable, efficient and effective.
Vehicle Architecture
The vehicle includes a carefully designed interior and exterior package along with intellectually calculated proposed power system ideal for the port.
Prototype and user testing
A low fidelity interior mock is made and tested with WBCT officials for feedback on usability of designed features, comfort and access.
